A carpet python hunts along the forward edge of a Djabugay cultural burn, searching for prey escaping the flames of the Wet Topics region near Kuranda, Australia. These snakes have existed alongside anthropogenic fire for so long that they have evolved strategies to take advantage of the once-frequent occurrences created by Aboriginal peoples in the rainforest. Djabugay rangers today continue and are scaling up the practice from a time when it was suppressed.
