The White Falcon
A female white-morph gyrfalcon soars through the arctic air outside of Nome, Alaska in July. Gyrfalcons are a true Arctic species, and are the avian equivalent of polar bears-- they are susceptible to climate change effects that make their principal prey, the ptarmigan, harder to catch, resulting in less successful bredding gyrfalcons.
