A ptarmigan, the principal prey for gyrfalcons, is well camoflauged among the tall vegetation of this floodplain on the tundra. As the warming climate allows vegetation to grow taller and willows to appear further north, ptarmigan become more difficult to hunt, posing a significant problem for gyrfalcons.
